COVID-19 Bulletin No. 23: Condominiums In The City of Toronto Urged To Implement A Mandatory mask Policy

Although the City of Toronto’s By-Law 541-2020, which requires that masks be worn in any indoor common spaces in hotels and motels in the City of Toronto, does not apply to apartments and condominiums, in a press release issued by the City of Toronto on July 22, 2020, Mayor John Tory urged all apartments and condominiums in the City of Toronto to adopt a mask or face covering policy for all indoor common element areas.

On July 22, 2020, Toronto Public Health also updated its Guidance Document for Residential Buildings, and now recommends that all apartments and condominiums in the City of Toronto adopt a mask or face covering policy for all indoor common element areas.

In speaking with reporters on July 22, 2020, during his biweekly briefing at Toronto City Hall, Mayor John Tory advised that if apartments and condominiums in the City of Toronto do not follow the recommendations of Toronto Public Health, specifically with regards to adopting a mask or face covering policy for all indoor common element areas, he will not hesitate to take action to mandate compliance with the same.
